光衰減器optical attenuator)、光學衰減器光纖衰減器fiber optic attenuator)是一種用於減少存在於自由空間光導纖維中的光信號功率的設備。光衰減器的基本類型有固定、逐步可變和連續可變。

應用

衰減器常被用於光纖通信,無論是測試功率邊緣時暫時添加一個信號丟失量,還是永久安裝以正確匹配發送機與接收機的適配範圍。急劇彎折的光纖可能導致損耗。

運作原理

功率減小是通過如吸收、反射、擴散、散射、偏轉、衍射和散射等手段來完成。光衰減器通常通過吸收光來工作,如太陽鏡吸收額外的光能。它們通常具有工作波長範圍,在範圍內均等地吸收所有光能。它們不應反射光或將光散射在空氣間隙中,因為這可能在光纖系統中引起不希望的後向反射。另一種衰減器則是利用一定長度的高損耗光纖,以其輸出信號的功率水平小於輸入水平的功率方式完成。 

Optical attenuator (optical attenuator), optical attenuator or fiber optic attenuator (fiber optic attenuator) is a device used to reduce the power of optical signals that exist in free space or optical fibers. The basic types of optical attenuators are fixed, gradually variable and continuously variable.

Application

Attenuators are often used in fiber optic communications, whether it is to temporarily add a signal loss when testing the power edge, or to be permanently installed to correctly match the adaptation range of the transmitter and receiver. A fiber that is bent sharply may cause loss.

Principle of Operation

Power reduction is accomplished by means such as absorption, reflection, diffusion, scattering, deflection, diffraction and scattering. Optical attenuators usually work by absorbing light, such as sunglasses to absorb extra light energy. They usually have an operating wavelength range and absorb all light energy equally within the range. They should not reflect light or scatter light in air gaps, as this may cause undesirable back reflections in fiber optic systems. Another type of attenuator uses a certain length of high-loss optical fiber to complete the output signal with a power level lower than the input level.
